Fluent Europe Training - Turbomachinery Modelling  /   G/Turbo

The length of the course is one day. Training is from 9.15am to 5.00pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Prerequisites

This course assumes that the attendees have some understanding of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, turbulence and experience with FLUENT 6.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, you should be able to:
  • Understand the important concepts of turbomachinery modelling
  • Understand how to use the tools available within FLUENT for turbomachinery modelling
  • OPTIONAL:  Understand how to use the preprocessing tools in G/Turbo to facilitate blade and mesh creation for turbomachinery simulations.

Course Agenda

Lectures:

  • Introduction to Modelling Rotating Machinery
  • Single Rotating Reference Frame (SRF)
  • Multiple Rotating Reference Frames (MRF)
  • Mixing Planes
  • Sliding Meshes
  • Boundary Conditions set-up
  • Turbulence Model selection
  • Turbomachinery specific postprocessing features
In the afternoon, trainees can choose between hands-on practical work, or training in the use of G/Turbo.  The G/Turbo lectures are:
  • Introduction to G/Turbo
  • Basic Operations
  • Tip Gaps and Spinners

Hands-On:

  • Single Rotating Reference Frame
  • Multiple Rotating Reference Frame
  • Modelling a Centrifugal Compressor Blade Row
  • Modelling and Air Blower using Sliding Mesh
  • Turbo-Postprocessing
If G/Turbo is covered, the following tutorial material is available:
  • Basic Model with.Unstructured Mesh
  • Low Speed Centrifugal Compressor
  • Mixed-Flow Pump Impeller
