Women Into Science And Engineering’ Award Won By Fluent Intern

Elizabeth Allen, an intern working at Sheffield-based Fluent Europe Ltd, has won a national engineering award. She is to receive the Ford WISE (Women Into Science and Engineering) Prize, Chartered Category, at a ceremony in London in November. The award recognises outstanding commitment and achievement by female engineering undergraduates in their final year of study.

Elizabeth is a past pupil of Notre Dame Comprehensive School in Sheffield. She is currently in the middle of a 6-month internship at Fluent Europe Ltd, the world-leader in CFD computer aided engineering software, as part of the final Masters year of her four-year degree studies in Aerospace Engineering at UMIST.

Commenting, Elizabeth says: “I am very excited to have won the award. Hopefully this is an indication that I’ll go on to enjoy a successful career. I’ve been fortunate so far in gaining a placement with Fluent, so I feel I’ve got the best foundation I could have wished for.”

WISE is an organisation dedicated to encouraging and promoting the participation of women in UK engineering industry. Backed by the IEE, IIE and Institute of Mechanical Engineers, it has played an important role in helping to increase the representation of females as a percentage of total numbers of UK engineering graduates from 7% in 1984 to 15% by 2000.
