Flow in an Ozone Contact Chamber

Ozonation contact tanks form an integral component of most water treatment plants. For disinfection purposes, suitable contact times must be provided to allow the necessary reactions to occur. Since ozone is a rather expensive gas, good, sustained mixing between the ozone and water is required. The efficiency of the ozone contact chamber was increased by simulating the turbulent flow in the device using a number of different baffle configurations and dimensions. Without the benefit of Fluent computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software simulations, experimental determination of the best design would have been costly and scale-dependent.
