Flow modeling allows you to investigate more design options and "what
if" scenarios than ever before. In this configuration, wastewater
is fed into a sedimentation tank through a central column and dispersed
radially outwards through a stilling well. Sludge accumulates at the bottom
and is typically directed towards the center by slowly rotating sweepers
where it can be pumped out from the tank. The clarified effluent is collected
at the tank perimeter. To set up this problem, Fluent computational fluid
dynamics (CFD) software was used to track the free surface and estimate
the amount of spillage over the stilling well.
A simple two-phase model was used to estimate the distribution
of particulate concentration over time
