Sheet and Coextrusion Dies

The challenges in designing sheet and coextrusion dies include obtaining uniformity in product thickness (and thickness of individual layers), controlling the deformation of the extrudate as it leaves the die, assessing the impact of flow rate variation, equipment alignment and temperature non-uniformities. All of these can lead to less than desirable results. Our CFD software can consolidate all of these variables into one computer model, and help you to solve the problems on the desktop before you design and build the equipment.

Here, two materials (HDPE and LDPE) are coextruded to produce a sheet with superior mechanical properties. The three-dimensional simulation predicts the flow distribution within the die as well as the shape of the extruded sheet and layer thicknesses.
Fluent CFD can simulate the interaction and combination of different materials and their respective properties, temperatures, and flow rates.
