Extrusion and Die Design

Fluent software has been successfully applied to the analysis of a variety of extrusion processes and equipment, including single- and twin-screw extruders, sheet, pelletizing and spiral mandrel dies, and foamed extrusion.

Using CFD, you can design the die for balanced flow at the outlet. For a given die, you can predict the shape of the extruded product. Using our unique "inverse die design" method, you can start with the desired product shape and ask the software program to compute the die lip shape required to produce that part. The result is a considerable savings of time and expense because the amount of trial-and-error testing is reduced.

Velocity vectors and contours on the cross-section of the die exit indicate the "unbalanced" flow due to the poor design of the die.
