Filling and Dispensing

The flow of liquids during filling and dispensing can be successfully modeled using Fluent's software. The CFD model provides an estimate of the fill time, along with predictions of entrapped air and bubble formation or splashing.  Flow modeling is also very useful for the design of nozzles and other dispensers.  The fluid-structure interaction (FSI) capability in Fluent's software can be used to study how much product is dispensed from a bottle when it is squeezed and whether the excess product retreats into the bottle or drips out undesirably.

This animation shows the dispensing of liquid soap from a plastic bottle over the squeeze time (2.5 seconds) and subsequent release.  The structural deformation of the solid bottle wall is modeled in addition to the fluid flow (including free surface).
