Using CFD to evaluate and design automotive painting processes is a relatively new but rapidly growing area of simulation. FLUENT can be utilized to evaluate numerous spray painting processes including electrostatically-supported or pneumatic application processes, to predict both the uniformity of paint deposition thickness as well as the efficiency in which the paint is transferred to the surface. Other applications include the use of CFD to study the flow patterns, temperature distribution and car surface body heat-up in paint-drying booths, air-flow in spray booths, mist elimination in scrubbers, response to electric fields during cathode dip painting, and fluid flow in dip tanks.
