TGrid: Unstructured Surface Wrapping and Volume Mesh Generation

TGrid is a specialized preprocessor used to create unstructured tetrahedral and HexCore meshes for complex and very large surface meshes. TGrid offers advanced prism layer creation tools including collision detection and sharp corner handling. TGrid is also equipped with an advanced wrapping procedure that produces a high quality, size function driven connected triangular surface mesh from a large set of unconnected faceted surfaces. TGrid's robust, automated algorithms save preprocessing time and generate high-quality meshes for CFD analysis in FLUENT.

Surface and volume meshes may be imported into TGrid from GAMBIT, ANSYS, CATIA, I-DEAS, NASTRAN, PATRAN, Pro/ENGINEER, Hypermesh, and more. Extensive tools are included in TGrid for improving imported surface mesh quality and for rapidly assembling meshes from multiple parts.

TGrid's convenient mesh quality diagnostic tools allow for easy verification of mesh size and quality.

Product Features

TGrid performs advanced hybrid volume mesh generation using Cartesian hanging-node hexa, tetrahedra, pyramids, and prisms (wedges or hexahedra) and 2-D meshing with triangles and quadrilaterals. The main features of TGrid include:

  • Advanced size function based surface wrapper technology with manual and automatic hole fixing tools
  • Post-wrapper operations like imprinting, coarsening, zone extraction and quality enhancing tools
  • Use of advancing boundary layer method for prisms layering including automatic proximity handling
  • Generation of HexCore and advancing-front tetrahedral volume meshes
  • Tools to improve the quality of surface and volume meshes
  • Tools to manipulate face/cell zones
  • Surface creation and re-meshing using Delaunay Triangulation (tris)
  • Tools for creating, intersecting, repairing, replacing and improving boundary mesh

TGrid can import boundary meshes from the ANSYS preprocessor GAMBIT, as well as numerous third party preprocessors.

Learn more about Materialise and 3-matic for FLUENT

3-matic-for-Fluent, from Materialise in Belgium, provides a fully automatic conditioning module to "batch convert" hundreds of files from mixed geometry sources in native or standard CAD file format (CATIA, UG, Pro/E, STEP, IGES) or faceted formats (STL, WRML), into a consistent, clean and optimal faceted format for TGrid's wrapping technology to quickly clean up.
