studentFLUENT - Tutorial Library - CVD

CVD schematic.

The purpose of this tutorial is to illustrate the use of the species transport model for simulating the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthesis of carbon nanotubes.

Chemical vapor deposition is a very efficient method for synthesizing carbon nanotubes. This tutorial illustrates the application of CVD using a multi-step chemical reaction to predict the yield of carbon nanotubes. These multi-walled carbon nanotubes are produced using Xylene-based CVD reactors. In this tutorial, two-step Xylene decomposition in the gas phase and catalytic decomposition of hydrocarbons are simulated.

In this tutorial you will learn how to:

  • Define the material and set the mixture composition.
  • Define volumetric reactions.
  • Define surface reactions.
  • Setup the solver and perform iterations.
  • Check the convergence.
  • Examine the results.
  • Perform post-processing of surface reactions.
