Targeted applications include continuous steel manufacturing and continuous fiber manufacturing

A new magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) module allows for modeling the interaction between an applied electromagnetic field and a flowing, electrically-conductive fluid. The MHD module provides the ability to predict the stirring, braking, and level control effects of MHD, allowing for improved designs of continuous casting molds for the steel industry.

The induced magnetic field on the broad-face symmetry plane of a slab caster is shown at one instant in time.

A new continuous fiber module is also available. In the continuous fiber manufacturing process, continuous strands of fibers are drawn by extruding molten material through spinneret nozzles. The continuous fiber module uses a continuum approach in order to make modeling the interaction between the flow and fibers tractable.
