New in FloWizard 3.1
FloWizard software is a rapid flow modeling tool that allows design and process engineers to rapidly and accurately validate their designs much earlier in the product development cycle. FloWizard tools make use of a high level of automation that is the key to its success, and tasks that conventionally require a lot of manual intervention — including meshing, solution steering, and reporting — are performed automatically by FloWizard.
FloWizard 3.1 offers the user a choice between the original segregated solver and the new, fast pressure based coupled solver used in FLUENT 6.3.
New in FloWizard 3.0
For the automotive and HVAC industries, FloWizard 3.0 software adds models for fans and vents placed at inlets, outlets, and inside the flow domain. These improve the analysis capabilities for ventilation in rooms, such as in buildings, and of climate control systems such as those used in automobiles. New cylindrical porous media models enhance performance predictions for catalytic converters. New radiation models improve the heat transfer analysis capabilities for many applications, including electronics cooling and power industry applications.
FloWizard now supports the use of polyhedral cells, which greatly improve solution speed. To reduce analysis turnaround time even further, version 3.0 is be able to perform parallel calculations on the user’s desktop PC, taking advantage of the capabilities of multiprocessor and multicore CPUs. FloWizard 3.0 offers many new features and enhancements. The most important new features are listed below.
CAD Connections
- The Pro/ENGINEER and UGS NX connections now provide model update functionality (associativity). Set up and perform a FloWizard calculation for a Pro/E or NX model. Make a parametric change in Pro/E or NX. You can then update your FloWizard model with the modified CAD model without having to set it up again.
- A CAD connection for Autodesk Inventor 11 is now available.
- Pro/ENGINEER, UGS NX and SolidWorks connection products include updates to allow users to work with the latest CAD software releases and both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of these packages.
Geometry and Meshing
- FloWizard now also reads CATIA V5R16 and V5R17 files; previously this was limited to R15 and earlier files.
- Additional options have been added to the Advanced panel on the Settings page, including an options for the solver to convert the mesh to a polyhedral mesh for faster convergence.
- An option to create annular boundaries has been added to the Create a Flow Boundary for Internal Flow panel.
- For rotating walls and rotating machinery regions, it is now possible to specify the axis of rotation by clicking on the model, in addition to the option to manually enter the coordinates of the rotation axis.
- A new capability is available for GAMBIT users. Send To GAMBIT 2.4 functionality has been added to the File menu. GAMBIT 2.4 will launch and load the FloWizard generated dbs file. Make modifications in GAMBIT. Save. Click Tools | Update from GAMBIT in FloWizard and the modified geometry or mesh will be loaded without the user having to set up the FloWizard model again.
- There is a new Geometry Cleanup panel in the Tools menu that provides more user control over the geometry cleanup options. Faces with large angles can be merged. It also allows the user to merge faces manually.
- It is now possible to use a separate slider bar for mesh density and numerical accuracy and convergence.
Physics and Solver
- Internal radiation models have been added for both transparent and participating media.
- New boundary conditions are: fan, inlet-vent, outlet-vent, intake-fan, outlet-fan, and a new porous boundary (equivalent to “porous jump” in FLUENT).
- A new pressure-far-field boundary condition is available for external flows.
- Resistances for porous regions can now be entered in cylindrical, conical, as well as Cartesian coordinates.
- Heat sources can now be specified in fluid and porous regions, as well as in solid regions.
- FloWizard V3 can export to the FLUENT 6 case and date file format. Files can also be sent to FLUENT.
- The Add Internal Boundary panel on the Boundary Conditions page has been redesigned and new options have been added to make it easier to define internal boundaries.
- An option to quickly set boundary conditions for all undefined boundaries has been added.
Postprocessing and Graphics
- Plane cuts and iso-surfaces can be clipped, either by variable or by region.
- The contents of the Final Report have been extended. Additional set-up information is provided for the boundary conditions and region properties.
- For cases involving rotating machinery, it is now possible to draw the velocity vectors and pathlines relative to the motion of the rotating machinery.
- Additional pathline drawing and animation controls have been added to the Display Options panel.
- Coupled walls are now displayed.
- Heat fluxes are available as a display variable.
- Lines can be drawn on contours.
- The user can now specify the pathline injection locations.
- Additional picture savings options have been added. Line thickness can be specified. It is now possible to save pictures at arbitrary pixel sizes (greater than the screen size).
- Animations can now also be saved in the MPEG format. AVI files are now fully compatible with PowerPoint.
- Different Windows background color schemes can be set in Tools | Options.
- Additional mouse button mapping options are “CATIA V5” and “WorkBench.”
- An “Add pictures” option has been added to the Manage Report Pictures panel. You can use this option to add other pictures to your final report, such as photographs of the actual equipment or drawing pictures.
- The Import FLUENT Results option can now import cases with non-conformal interfaces (for post-processing purposes).
