Higher Quality, Lower Cost Consumer & Materials Products with FLUENT 6.2

Fluent Inc., the world leader in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and services, recently announced the release of the latest version of its flagship CFD software, FLUENT 6.2. This release has over 300 new capabilities, many of which are important for semiconductor and electronics applications. FLUENT 6.2 also broadens the spectrum of potential CFD applications in both the food and consumer products industries. At the same time, key enhancements to the core FLUENT solver have led to dramatic speed-ups and improved accuracy, providing a significant step forward in the design of metal, glass and plastic products.

FLUENT 6.2 offers the most extensive set of CFD modeling capabilities available to the materials industry, providing the ability to design products faster, with higher quality and at lower cost than ever before:

Free surface modeling to optimize the filling of bottles and containers
Reliable and robust radiation models for glass and metals applications
An easy-to-use moving/deforming mesh approach for modeling the complex motion of twin screw extruders, mixing impellers, and other solid parts
High accuracy, advanced LES/DES turbulence models for capturing complex flow patterns in electronic devices
Industry-leading multiphase flow modeling, including phase-change, for analyzing cooling, solidification, and melting
Enhanced dispersed phase models for spray drying and vaporization in cosmetics manufacture.

Many features within FLUENT 6.2 are useful for optimizing the production of raw materials or designing and manufacturing new devices. In addition, combinations of new and enhanced features allow users to simulate new physical phenomena. For example, the VOF method for free surfaces when used together with the moving mesh model permits users to accurately simulate partially filled screws, complete glass furnace modeling and food mixing.
