FLUENT® 6.1 Offers Advances in Steam Generator Modeling and Pollution Prediction

April 4, 2003, Lebanon, NH, USA

Fluent Inc., the world's largest provider of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and consulting services, announces the availability of FLUENT 6.1, the latest version of its flagship flow modeling software.

New Tools for Boiling Analysis

Accurate prediction of boiling and phase change is important for flow simulation of plant components such as steam generators, fuel assemblies, and condensers. FLUENT 6.1 has the ability to include interphase heat and mass transfer calculations with its Eulerian multiphase model, which significantly broadens the range of complicated geometries and physics that can be simulated in the power plant.

Advanced Chemistry Modeling & Pollution Prediction

Combustion modeling and pollution prediction are enhanced with this newest version. The PDF transport model provides for accurate simulation of finite-rate chemistry in turbulent flames, including reactions involving NOx and CO. In-situ adaptive tabulation (ISAT) accelerates turbulent finite-rate chemistry calculations performed using the PDF transport and eddy dissipation concept (EDC) models by two to three orders of magnitude, enabling multidimensional simulations with detailed chemical mechanisms. The ability of FLUENT 6.1 to handle complex surface reactions in porous media enables the modeling of hydrogen reformers as well as SCRs and other pollutant aftertreatment equipment.

Turbomachinery Modeling

For the prediction and improvement of efficiency in rotating equipment, FLUENT 6.1 offers many new advantages. The turbomachinery-specific post-processing that was introduced in FLUENT 6.0 has been expanded to address multistage problems. Users can define and store multiple single-blade-row topologies and apply post-processing to each individual blade row. A sliding mesh preview tool enhances the user-friendliness for performing unsteady multiple blade row analysis. A unique new mixing plane model option conserves total enthalpy, leading to improved temperature profile predictions for multistage turbomachinery. Also, the ability to easily model real gases with user-specified properties gives much greater flexibility, particularly when modeling high-speed, high-temperature flows.

Pricing and Availability

FLUENT 6.1 is available on UNIX, NT, and Linux platforms. It is provided at no additional cost to all current FLUENT users who have chosen to purchase upgrades along with their FLUENT license. FLUENT license fees are determined by the number of processes that a user requires. Annual license fees include unlimited technical support.
