FLUENTŪ 6.1 Introduces Automated Moving and Deforming Domain Modeling to the Aerospace Industry

April 4, 2003, Lebanon, NH, USA

Fluent Inc., the world's largest provider of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and consulting services, announces the availability of FLUENT 6.1.

CFD in Motion

This version of FLUENT brings new possibilities for modeling store separation, valve opening/closing, positive displacement pumps, stage separation, missile launches, and flow around other moving equipment with its dynamic mesh modeling capability. Users only need to set-up the initial mesh and specify the motion of the boundaries. FLUENT then computes the flow, automatically updating the mesh as the boundaries change shape. For applications where the boundary motion is not known ahead of time, such as store separation, it can be computed by FLUENT as part of the solution process. "FLUENT can now easily simulate physical phenomena previously requiring tedious manual preparation," says Fluent's Chief Technology Officer, Dipankar Choudhury. "The applications for dynamic mesh modeling are limitless. Our users are thinking of new ways to use it all the time," he adds.

Acoustics, Ballistics, and More

For modeling flow-induced noise, FLUENT 6.1 also features a leading-edge, built-in acoustics modeling capability that lets users perform "on the fly" sound calculations. A new user-defined real gas model makes it possible now to simulate the flow of a gas whose density is an arbitrary function of temperature and pressure. This is applicable to engineering challenges such as the analysis of cryogenic fluids within spacecraft propulsion systems, hypersonic dissociated air in chemical equilibrium, and the expansion of highly pressurized gases in guns and armaments. FLUENT 6.1 also includes an improved cavitation model which has shown excellent agreement with the available experimental data in all test cases and can be readily applied to a wide variety of applications, including rocket inducers and fuel injectors.

Pricing and Availability

FLUENT 6.1 is available on UNIX, NT, and Linux platforms. It is provided at no additional cost to all current FLUENT users who have chosen to purchase upgrades along with their FLUENT license. FLUENT license fees are determined by the number of processes that a user requires. Annual license fees include unlimited technical support.

About Fluent

Fluent is the world's largest provider of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software and consulting services. Fluent's software is used for simulation, visualization, and analysis of fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, and chemical reactions. It is a vital part of the computer-aided engineering (CAE) process for companies around the world and is deployed in nearly every manufacturing industry. Using Fluent's software, product development, design and research engineers build virtual prototypes and simulate the performance of proposed and existing designs, allowing them to improve design quality while reducing cost and speeding time to market. Fluent's corporate headquarters are located in Lebanon, New Hampshire, USA, with offices in Belgium, England, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan and Sweden. Its CFD software is also available around the world through joint ventures, partnerships, and distributors in Korea, Australia, Brazil, China, Taiwan, the Czech Republic, and the Middle East.
