Bill Davis Racing Selects Fluent As Its CFD Software Supplier
July 28, 2005, Lebanon, New Hampshire, USA
Fluent Inc., the world's leading supplier of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software and services, announces an agreement with Bill Davis Racing of High Point, North Carolina. Fluent CFD software has a long history of use in Formula 1, IRL and CART, and is rapidly becoming a vital engineering tool in NASCAR as well.
"In order to further our advantage on the track, computer-aided engineering (CAE) is where we are heading with the Bill Davis Racing program. The advancement in technology has allowed performance gains in areas where intuition previously guided us. Coupling CAE with our team's wealth of design and on-track experience allows us to move forward even more. In order to understand the importance of even the smallest improvement in performance, consider that for a 500 mile race, a mere 1/10th of 1% improvement moves us a half mile closer to the checkered flag, all other factors being equal," says Joshua Dawson, Bill Davis Racing's team powertrain engineer.
Championship race teams the world over choose Fluent software and services for their flow modeling and heat transfer needs. Fluent represents the cutting edge of CFD technology - honed by many years of experience in the racing industry. Fluent Inc. also works closely with the racing divisions of the various automotive OEMs to ensure that their NASCAR clients receive the best possible engineering support.
Through the use of Fluent's software, Bill Davis Racing can solve complex engineering problems while cutting down its prototyping and physical testing costs. Typical problems tackled by Bill Davis Racing using FLUENT include, intake and exhaust manifolds, air boxes, cylinder heads and ports, water jacket cooling and thermal analysis.

About Bill Davis Racing
This 2005 season marks the 13th year Bill Davis Racing (BDR) has competed in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, but the team's 18th year overall in NASCAR competition.
As a NASCAR team owner, Bill Davis has worked with some of the sport's top drivers and claimed numerous honors, including the 1991 NASCAR Busch Series Rookie of the Year award with driver Jeff Gordon and a Daytona 500 win in 2002 with NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver Ward Burton.
Compared to other teams in the NASCAR garage, Davis' operations may not be quite as large, but his teams have just as much-if not more- determination and drive as the competition. It is his teams' hard work and dedication that has helped Davis claim 16 victories, 88 top-five finishes and 230 top-10 finishes in his career as a NASCAR team owner.
Davis is fielding one full-time Nextel Cup team in 2005 with young talent Scott Wimmer driving the No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge Charger. Then, expanding to have three full-time teams in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, he will have veteran drivers Johnny Benson in the No. 23 Toyota Tundra and Mike Skinner in the No. 5 Toyota Tundra. The two NASCAR veterans will be teaming up with a fairly new name to NASCAR, Bill Lester, in the No. 22 Toyota Tundra.
With his veteran drivers' experience and young talents' energy, Davis is planning to leave his mark in the top standings of both the Nextel Cup and Craftsman Truck Series this year.
