Burner Duct

Rapid Turnaround for Equipment Trouble-Shooting

A finite section of the cylinder was simulated.

Faced with an unusual duct burner installation issue, a major boiler manufacturer turned to Fluent's CFD consulting services to identify the source of the problem. Fluent analyzed the flow in the duct leading to the superheater in the gas turbine heat recovery steam generator system. A supplemental burner, located in the duct, was adversely affecting the flow distribution to the superheater. Fluent's CFD models predicted the degree of non-uniformity in the duct and demonstrated how varying the open area of a perforated plate flow correction grid could compensate for the duct burner arrangement. Based on the CFD results, engineers in the field installed a fix and confirmed the expected performance improvement.

Within four days, while field engineers were on-site at the remote power station, Fluent's CFD analysis identified the problem and provided the basis for installing a solution.
