A pilot will experience extreme forces, shock waves, and potentially
even debris impact during an emergency ejection. The Defense Evaluation
and Research Agency (DERA) in the UK has used FLUENT to simulate the forces
acting on the pilot during such a maneuver. By looking at the problem
computationally, they can analyze a wide range of ejection scenarios quickly
and efficiently.
Path lines and contours illustrate the forces on a fighter
pilot after ejecting from the airplane.
