Pump Design
EPFL and ETEL SA
At the French UGM, a collaborative presentation
was made by the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory of the Swiss Federal Institute
of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), represented by Jean-Daniel Reymond, and
the space division of ETEL SA, represented by Stephane Benoit.
The small, high-performance radial pumps they studied
are used primarily in space applications. Flow prediction and optimization
were performed using FLUENT/UNS with a tetrahedral mesh. A model with
multiple reference frames was necessary to simulate the interaction between
the rotor and the motionless parts.
