Norsk Hydro is using Fluent’s CFD software to predict the aerodynamic forces on offshore oil rigs. By computing the drag on the structure, the required anchor loads can be determined and minimized.

Preliminary validation against wind tunnel data has contributed to confidence in the CFD results, which Norsk Hydro hopes can reduce the reliance on wind tunnel testing for design.
