CFD for America's Cup

CFD isn't limited to traditional industrial applications, as this FLUENT/UNS model of flow around a sailboat clearly illustrates. The analysis, conducted at Dartmouth College's Thayer School of Engineering for the U.S. Sailing Association, Inc. established the viability of FLUENT/UNS for sail design and included comparison to wind tunnel measurements. Dartmouth continues to work on sail design through its current project with the Young America/New York Yacht Club challenge for the America's Cup.
