Dr. Thomas Frauenfelder from the Institute of Diagnostic Radiology, University Hospital of Zürich in Switzerland has received the “Prix Jubilee 2003” of the Swiss Society of Radiology, a prestigious award for his work on cardiovascular flow. Dr. Frauenfelder illustrated that fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulation with FiDAP is a helpful tool to support interventional radiologists in their daily work. This emerging technology can be integrated in the process of virtual stent planning. It allows doctors to evaluate pathologic vessels, such as an abdominal aortic aneurysm with a risk of rupture, and to visualize the benefits as well as possible weak points of interventional therapy.
