The RSF in Lebanon

Fluent’s remote simulation facility (RSF) has moved to the Fluent headquarters in Lebanon, NH. The RSF, which has been in operation for about a year, is designed for running large parallel simulations and/or for the concurrent execution of many simulations, through a web browser interface. The 8-node, 16-processor machine in Lebanon is an Evolocity cluster, provided by Linux Networx. The system uses 3GHz Pentium 4 processors generating a total of 96 Gflops, and each node has 4GB of RAM, for a total of 32 GB. The nodes are connected with high-speed, Gigabit Ethernet for rapid message passing during parallel processing. The facility uses SSL 2.0, which provides state-of-the-art security and systems infrastructure technology. Platform LSF (load sharing facility) software from Platform Computing is used for job scheduling. Each user account has access to 10 GB of storage space, and redundant internet connections ensure continuous operation in the rare event that one of the internet lines fails. Fluent software products available on the RSF include FLUENT, FiDAP, and Airpak. Per-hour costs for the RSF runs are based on volume, and can fall well below US$10 per CPU-hr.
