Fluent is taking part in a fouryear
European Union R&D
Thematic Network called
QNET-CFD. The project sets out to
assemble, structure and collate information
concerning the performance
of CFD in a wide range of industries.
The Network comprises 45 partners
from the world of CFD
(industry, software suppliers, and
academics), collaborating to build
a library of CFD knowledge. This
is how the project works...
Each partner documents a single
Application Challenge – a complete,
quality-assured industrial
strength test case for which reliable
experimental data are available, to
enable validation of CFD models.
In each case, the documentation
describes the problem in sufficient
detail for independent modelers to
calculate the flow using their code
of choice. It also presents the corresponding
experimental data,
and in many cases, a specimen CFD
solution. The Application Challenges
are reviewed thoroughly by other
partners to ensure that they are suitable
for inclusion in the database.
Where appropriate, the Application
Challenge includes best practices
guidelines for modeling the particular
flow conditions.
In addition to the Application
Challenges, the partners are also
developing a collection of more fundamental
guidelines for Underlying
Flow Regimes. These materials document
CFD experience and best
practices for elemental flows relevant
to the Application
Challenges.
The QNET organization holds an annual workshop, open to members and
nonmembers of the project. The next meeting will be held in Prague in
May 2003. Check the website to find out more about the work and membership
of QNET-CFD, and obtain electronic copies of the informative Network Newsletters.
