Dell Supports Linux Clustering
Early this year, Fluent welcomed Dell to our group of strategic partners
who supply computer hardware to Fluent users. This move underlines the
growing interest in Pentium-based systems among our clients and the growing
viability of the Intel architecture for high-performance large-scale CFD
simulations. (See "New Computing Options Flourish"
article). In addition to providing support for testing and certification,
the partnership has provided support for development and benchmarking
of FLUENT on a cluster of Dell Precision workstations running under Linux.

Dell provided ten dual-processor systems to support Fluent's development,
testing, and benchmarking on Linux clusters.
"Dell's workstations represent outstanding performance and
value for users of Fluent's computational fluid dynamics software,"
notes Dipankar Choudhury, Fluent's Chief Technology Officer. "The
published Fluent benchmarks on Dell Precision workstation systems are
among the fastest we have seen and our collaboration on Linux clustering
showcases the effectiveness of combining Fluent's parallel computing
performance with Dell work-stations. For simulations using millions of
cells, not uncommon for today's applications, we've seen a 13-fold
improvement in performance when solving in parallel on a cluster of eight
Dell Precision 530 work-stations, each powered by dual-Intel Xeon Processors."
