CFDReaction, a sophisticated reaction modeling package from Performance Fluid Dynamics (PFD) in Dublin, Ireland, is now available with FLUENT 5. The software uses a turbulence cascade approach to compute reaction rates. Until now, the software (previously called PFDReaction) was only available with FLUENT 4.

CFDReaction incorporates mixing on a range of scales into its calculation of reaction rates. These include macromixing (on the large scales, where large-scale blending of reactants occurs), mesomixing (in the mid-scales, where a cascade of turbulence energy occurs), and micromixing (on the smallest scales, which must take place for reactions to occur). The approach used makes CFDReaction suitable for multi-step reactions, with individual steps that are faster than, slower than, or comparable to local mixing rates. In particular, users analyzing liquid reactions in continuous reactors can benefit the most from this product.
