FLUENT 5.5, scheduled for an early 2001 release, will offer a dynamic,
two-way coupling of GT-Power (a 1D gas dynamics and engine simulation
code from Gamma Technology Inc.) with FLU- ENT. Initially, this capability
will be available on selected plat- forms only, with additional platforms
planned for the near future.
In addition, FLUENT 5.5 will include several new enhancements to existing
models, graphics capabilities, and data import and export. Some of the
highlights on the solver side will include improvements to the accuracy
of the particle tracking algorithm, especially in regions of steep velocity
gradients. The phase change model will account for the damping of the
liquid velocity caused by the onset of solidification. VOF modeling with
more than two fluids will allow for the input of surface tension and contact
angle for all pairs of fluids. The parallel solver will be able to be
used with the thin plate conduction model. Improvements to the graphics
will include the ability to plot vectors for any vector field, not just
velocity. Plot resolution will be improved by the ability to use the minimum
and maximum of a chosen variable on a select- ed surface rather than from
the entire domain. Additions to the import and export capabilities will
include mesh import and data export to CFD General Notation System (CGNS).
The export of FLUENT data to Abaqus will be supported, and export to ANSYS,
PATRAN, and NASTRAN will be enhanced.
