In February, Fluent and AspenTech announced a strategic technology initiative
to provide engineers in the process industries with the tools needed to
create state-of-the-art, integrated workflow environments that optimize
plant productivity, flexibility and time-to-market. A key goal of the
collaboration is to enable strategic reuse of knowledge and experience,
so that all designs and analyses are based on consistent and complete
data. The collaboration will leverage the complementary expertise of the
two companies to provide best-in-class tools for engineers engaged in
process equipment design and process optimization, enabling manufacturers
to see how individual plant assets impact overall plant performance and
efficiency. Currently, models based on AspenTech’s Engineering Suite™
form the basis of integrated plant design. Fluent’s CFD software is used
to understand and improve the performance of individual unit operations
or isolated pieces of equipment. Integration of these technologies will
provide the benefits of CFD-fidelity equipment models in the context of
the overall process performance to enable companies to develop superior
plant designs and to optimize existing plants. This technology integration
also offers the benefits of consistent and rigorous property models for
use within both CFD modeling and plant-wide simulation modeling. The AspenTech-Fluent
initiative will provide integrated solutions for viewing and simulating
the entire process, enabling manufacturers to see how each individual
plant asset impacts overall plant performance and efficiency, and ensuring
that designs and analyses are based on consistent and complete data. Recently,
Fluent and AspenTech received significant funding from the US Department
of Energy to assist in the development of these integrated design tools.
